Pleygo, the new self-proclaimed ‘Netflix For Legos,’ has either the most brilliant, out-of-the-box business plan ever created…or the worst. I can’t decide.
The idea is simple: sign up for a monthly service and you can borrow / rent Lego sets a la Netflix. Pleygo even claims that it is OK if you lose some pieces (within reason). They will even take spare parts BACK –
earning you credits towards your monthly membership cost.
Sounds great for parents. But what about kids? In my experience, those Lego-obsessed mini-builders like to display their creations like trophies. And that seems to be the biggest problem with Pleygo’s, ahem, “game plan.” Once a set is put together, the program logic states that you would need to send it back before getting your next set. Good luck with that, moms & dads of America.
