IS THIS AD SERENE OR SIMPLY BORING?

Today, AdWeek was touting the new ad for Canon TV as serene and relaxing. The “Urban Deer” commercial is 90 seconds of nighttime wildlife viewing set in city streets. Or suburban streets. I’ll admit that I tried to turn the volume up a few times before I realized it was a silent ad, so there was a bit of viewer frustration at the beginning. And all that would be ok, if I found myself simply lost in the visuals, hoping that 90 seconds would be 90 minutes. In reality, I wished it was only 9 seconds long. Other than seeing a fox relieve himself on a streetlight, there was really nothing here worth watching, imho. I mean, deer walking around at night = a pretty commonplace sight. Now if they started flying, on the other hand…
