The Human Face of Google

By November 26, 2013 November 1st, 2022 No Comments

Google India released a commercial this month promoting Google search. Although Google’s search function comes naturally for those of us in the US, other parts of the world aren’t necessarily as exposed to the media hype. In this video spot, accurately titled “Reunion,” Google shows a human face behind its technology. The heartwarming tale features two long-lost childhood friends reconnecting – thanks to Google’s technology. The commercial isn’t in English but it’s easily understandable in any language. Though viewers can tell that the video was produced to promote the tech giant, the narrative masks it in a way that feels natural.

This concept is not entirely new to the US, as there was a similarly touching 2011 Google ad – “Dear Sophie” – where a father was using Chrome and Gmail to write an email diary to his daughter.

Does advertising work? Well, one of the most well-known search engines in the world certainly thinks so. These ads put a face to the technology, earning Google both respect and credibility – and giving users another reason to believe in the tech giant.
